This is a recipe that can be adapted for some food allergies and generally liked by kids. As usual, I like to make a double recipe for sandwiches later in the week or to freeze.
ingredients
1 ½ pounds ground meat — beef, pork, turkey, or combination
¼ cup sweet onion, chopped
¼ teaspoon Italian seasoning (optional)
½ teaspoon salt
¼ teaspoon pepper
¼ teaspoon garlic powder
½ cup milk or water
2-3 tablespoons ketchup, chili sauce or BBQ sauce
½ cup dry bread crumbs, ¾ cup quick oats, or 3 slices of bread torn into tiny pieces
1 egg, lightly beaten
bake it!
Heat oven to 350° F.
In a large bowl, mix ground meat, chopped onion, and seasoning. Set aside.
In a small bowl, combine milk or water, sauce of choice, bread crumbs, and egg. Let sit for 15 minutes.
Add the ingredients in the small bowl to the meat mixture and mix together.
Using a 9 x 13 inch pan, place meat mixture in pan and shape into a loaf.
Spoon topping sauce over the loaf.
Bake uncovered for 1 hour or until no longer pink in the center.
